Dear Parkin
I am replying to your letter of the 2nd August to Sterndale Bennett about Hong Kong.
We too have never heard of any indemnity to the Chinese for Hong Kong, and our research people can trace no reference to it. Possibly Findlay Andrew has got Hong Kong mixed up with the Philippines, for which the United States of America paid U.S. $20 million to Sain, so that it could be called purchase and not annexation.
Yours sincerely
bin
